Design of an Aluminum Foundry with Ceramic Fiber Insulation

Aluminum is one of the most versatile engineering metals, finding its use in a variety fields including construction, architecture, aerospace, automotive, consumer products, and many more. The high demand for aluminum production driven by advantageous physical, chemical, mechanical properties, such as strength to weight ratio good corrosion resistance. Additionally, can be recycled using processes that require only fraction energy required primary production. recycling primarily accomplished melting foundries. In some foundries, large amount lost due poor insulation an inaccurate knowledge crucible temperature. This project focused on designing safe, efficient electric foundry. Using theoretical calculations, foundry was designed melt 3.0 kg cans ~9 MJ energy. A prototype successfully fabricated tested with attention structural, thermal, electrical design aspects. Experiments showed capable ~11 energy, which close calculations. normalized usage ~6.9 per pure produced, compares well benchmarked
